When a tooth fails to erupt into the mouth in a timely manner, it is usually stuck or impacted in the bone. It also may not be erupting in the right direction, which may harm the roots of the adjacent teeth. When this occurs, it becomes necessary to find the tooth and have it orthodontically moved into alignment.
The area is anesthetized, the tooth is exposed where a bracket and/or chain (device) is attached in order to facilitate eruption of the tooth. The orthodontist or dentist moves the tooth into place with the device. Healing time takes around 2 weeks.
