Due to loose, shifting teeth, or teeth that bite too hard, occlusal adjustment or bite adjustment may be necessary. For teeth to be healthy, they need an even biting force to reduce trauma to the teeth and excess force to the jaw joints. By alleviating areas where you may be biting too hard, rebalancing of your bite and reversal of trauma can be achieved. This procedure is virtually painless and involves placing a blue strip between the teeth to determine where the most biting force is located and these areas are relieved with a fine finishing bur in small, unnoticeable, increments. Many times in conjunction with this procedure, your general dentist will make a night guard to prevent grinding and clenching while you are sleeping. Sometimes splinting of the teeth is necessary to stabilize the force of your bite along more teeth.
